Planning Application Submitted for New Cultural Destination in West Edinburgh
Edinburgh, Tuesday, 14 February 2023 – The planning application for Jupiter Artland’s new art centre and craft distillery in West Edinburgh have been submitted to City of Edinburgh Council. Jupiter Artland is the home of Scotland’s most important collections of site-specific sculpture and, since opening to the public in 2009, has grown to be one of the country’s most cherished visitor attractions. This success has led to a requirement for a purpose-built centre to secure its long-term sustainable future.
The proposed gallery, visitor centre, café and craft distillery are designed by Organic Architects, the Scottish-based architectural firm that specialise in sustainable design. The proposals form part of Jupiter Artland’s investment plans for 2020-2030 to enhance visitor experience, extend the reach of its learning programmes and to grow Jupiter as a centre for excellence in contemporary art. The integrated micro distillery is intended to support the economic sustainability of Jupiter Artland, allowing it to continue its work to engage Every Child in Scotland with exceptional art through the Jupiter Artland Foundation.
Nicky Wilson, Director of Jupiter Artland states “This is the next exciting step in the continuing of Jupiter Artland Foundation’s work to reach every child in Scotland and create a sustainable future for Jupiter in Scotland.”
