British Women Artists

In the decades after women’s suffrage in Britain, war, domesticity, persistent barriers, and fierce resistance moulded the careers of women in the arts. While some were hindered by the difficulties piled against them, others were successful in pursuing creative pursuits. This publication uncovers the hidden history of a rich network of overlooked women artists as well as that of well-known figures like Barbara Hepworth, Laura Knight, and Winifred Nicholson.
