We have worked with local secondary and primary teachers to develop a programme which delivers both an exceptional learning experience as well as content relevant to the curriculum for art and design. Jupiter Artland is a unique resource for Scottish schools. Nowhere else is it possible to encounter such important pieces of work in such an inspiring environment.
The works of art at Jupiter Artland are contemporary and conceptual. We find that exploring the ideas behind the work leads into all areas of the curriculum. There are opportunities for scientific, mathematical, geographical, historical, language and literary spin offs. As well as this the works inspire forays into all areas of the expressive arts be it drama, dance or music!
Using the collection and the artland as the starting point the education programme offers inspiring and challenging projects for students of all ages. School visits are structured in three ways:
Firstly a tour of the artland and a workshop with the permanent education staff at Jupiter Artland. A typical day starts with a tour of all the sculptures followed by an afternoon workshop. Most activities focus on one artist and sculpture. Children visit and explore the piece, learn about the artist and their other work and then make their own response to it.
Secondly we use visiting artists and specialist providers to lead workshops that develop skills and inspire... Whether it be artists, poets, metalworkers, woodworkers, musicians, photographers, actors, dancers, mosaic makers or potters.
Thirdly we offer a block of visits which allow the development of a theme such as "Inspired by nature" or "The human form". Over a series of visits children develop a theme in various mediums. For example, Antony Gormley's piece could be the starting point for an exploration into the human form. Children could do life drawings and develop them into clay, wire, wood or stone.

"The organisation, content and teaching during our visit was pitched perfectly for the children and this was evident in their complete concentration, their willingness to take part and also the work that they produced subsequently shows that they understood all aspects of the day and that they had great fun."
Davina Richardson, Cargilfield School
"Andy Goldsworthy's pieces have a powerful and timeless quality through the innovative use of natural elements and the surroundings of Jupiter Art Land"
